Kedarnath Package from Ahmedabad: Plans & Cost

KH By Kedarnath Helicopter Yatra Editorial· Updated 2026-10-06·7 min read

Key takeaways

For a Kedarnath package from Ahmedabad, the usual route is the daily Yoga Express to Haridwar, about 24 hours, then a package that starts there; plan roughly 7 to 8 days by train. Direct flights to Dehradun are not consistently confirmed. Packages normally exclude your travel to Uttarakhand and the helicopter, and the 2026 closing is expected but not announced.

Listings titled "from Ahmedabad" mostly begin in Haridwar, Delhi or Dehradun, so the journey from Gujarat is a separate leg you arrange yourself. This guide covers that leg, day plans, operator prices read on 6 October 2026, the IRCTC helicopter fares and the registration and closing rules. We do not sell packages or tickets.

How to Reach Kedarnath from Ahmedabad: Train, Flight or Road

Kedarnath Temple has no rail line or airport. Every route from Ahmedabad ends at a foothill gateway such as Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun, followed by a road journey to Sonprayag and Gaurikund, or a helicopter from Phata, Sirsi (Sersi) or Guptkashi.

The Yoga Express to Haridwar

The Yoga Express (19031) is the direct train. Sources list it as a daily service from Sabarmati Junction, with a departure at 11:25 and arrival at Haridwar at 11:20 the next day, about 24 hours later. It continues to Yog Nagari Rishikesh at 12:25 on Day 2, a total of roughly 25 to 26 hours. Distance is given as about 1,208 to 1,280 km, depending on the source. Wikipedia describes a long-distance service with 43 to 45 stops and a mix of AC, sleeper and general coaches. Check NTES or IRCTC for the current timetable and seats, because we do not give fares or coach details here.

Flying Ahmedabad to Dehradun (Jolly Grant): check the airline

Direct Ahmedabad-Dehradun availability differs by source. A Wikipedia route table for Jolly Grant Airport lists Air India Express; the airline's own page showed no fares for October 2026 when we looked on 6 October; and one aggregator lists a daily IndiGo non-stop. Another blog says most flights involve a New Delhi layover. Check the airline sites before planning around a direct flight. Jolly Grant Airport is about 25 km from Dehradun, 20 km from Rishikesh and 35 km from Haridwar.

By road

One blog (chardhamhotel.in) puts Ahmedabad to Gaurikund at about 1,409 km and says the drive takes about two days; we have not confirmed that elsewhere, so treat it as a rough guide.

How Many Days You Need from Ahmedabad

The table below shows planning estimates, not operator itineraries. They are built from the travel times above and the Haridwar-start structures operators list, and each includes a buffer day because weather and queues can shift darshan.

Train plan (about 7 to 8 days)

Day 1 is the train. After a Haridwar arrival at 11:20 on Day 2, many travellers halt in Haridwar, which is also how the MakeMyTrip listings below begin. The next days cover the drive to Guptkashi, the Sonprayag and Gaurikund start, Kedarnath, a buffer, and the drive back.

Fly-in plan (about 6 days)

If you find a flight to Jolly Grant Airport, you save most of a day. One blog gives Dehradun airport to Gaurikund as about 224 km and a taxi time of about 7 hours, but that is a single source, so confirm with your operator.

DayTrain plan (estimate)Fly-in plan (estimate)

5Buffer or return downDrive to Haridwar or Rishikesh
6Drive to Haridwar or RishikeshFly home

The trek from Gaurikund is quoted at about 14 to 18 km depending on the source: IRCTC says 16 km, one operator says 14 km and another 17 to 18 km. Do not plan a tight day on one figure.

What Packages for Ahmedabad Travellers Include and Exclude

Package pages tagged "Ahmedabad" list Haridwar, Delhi or Dehradun start points, which means travel from Ahmedabad is separate. Operators also exclude helicopter tickets, ponies and porters, and tax. Compare the package part with our Kedarnath package from Delhi guide, which uses a similar structure.

These prices are as listed on 6 October 2026, are not like-for-like and are not this site's offers. The MakeMyTrip page title still shows an older "from" price, which we ignore.

What you still pay for

You still pay for the train or flight to Uttarakhand and for the helicopter. Chardhamtour lists flight or train, helicopter, ropeway, doli or pony, insurance and GST at 5% as exclusions. Ask each seller for a written inclusion list.

Adding the Helicopter: IRCTC Fares and Booking Rules

IRCTC HeliYatra is the only online channel for Kedarnath helicopter tickets. On 6 October 2026 its Check Fare table showed round-trip fares per passenger of Rs 12,762 from Guptkashi, Rs 10,164 from Phata and Rs 6,390 from Sirsi (Sersi). A fuel surcharge applies to journeys from 1 October 2026 (no amount shown), convenience fee and payment-gateway charges are extra, and pricing is dynamic under the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA). Each user ID can book 2 tickets of up to 6 passengers, which is 12 passengers. Our Kedarnath helicopter booking guide walks through the steps.

The homepage listed Kedarnath bookings only for journeys from 1 to 15 October 2026. Check IRCTC for later dates before you buy rail tickets from Ahmedabad.

Registration and the 2026 Closing Window

Char Dham yatra registration is free and mandatory, and IRCTC requires it before a helicopter booking. Register on the official Uttarakhand registration and tourist care portal or through the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Helplines listed are 1364 and 0135-3520100, with counters at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar and Sonprayag.

The Badri-Kedar Temple Committee had not announced the 2026 closing date on 6 October 2026; its site said only that Yatra-2026 is in progress. Closing is expected around Bhai Dooj, 11 November 2026, as an expectation rather than a notice. For the latest, see our Kedarnath closing date 2026 guide. A 24-hour train and a week away make a refund or rescheduling clause worth asking for.

Booking Order: What to Confirm Before You Buy a Train Ticket

From Ahmedabad the train leg is long, so the order of booking matters. The sequence below is our planning suggestion, not an official procedure.

  1. Complete Char Dham registration on the government portal, since IRCTC asks for it before a helicopter booking.
  2. Check IRCTC HeliYatra for the dates you want if you plan to fly. On 6 October 2026 it listed Kedarnath only for journeys from 1 to 15 October.
  3. Look at the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee's latest notice, because the closing is expected around 11 November 2026 but has not been announced.
  4. Ask the operator for a written inclusion list and a refund or rescheduling clause.
  5. Only then book the Yoga Express, and the return train, with a buffer day before any onward travel from Gujarat.

The reason: package and helicopter dates can shift, so the 24-hour train leg should be fixed last, not first.

Questions to ask an operator: which hotel and town each night, which meals are included, whether GST is included, who books the helicopter, and what is refundable if weather changes the plan. For planning questions you can phone or WhatsApp +91 99263 12626; we do not sell tickets or packages. Ahmedabad is a long way from the temple, so budget the first and last days for travel. A package makes the most sense when it covers everything from the Haridwar pickup onward and you simply add your own rail or air ticket; a self-plan makes sense when your dates are likely to move or when you already know the halts. Either way, the helicopter is a separate IRCTC purchase.

Frequently asked questions

How do I go from Ahmedabad to Kedarnath?

The usual route is the Yoga Express to Haridwar, about 24 hours, then a road journey to Sonprayag and Gaurikund and the trek, or a helicopter booked on IRCTC HeliYatra. Flights to Dehradun are an alternative, but direct availability is not consistently confirmed.

Is there a direct train from Ahmedabad to Haridwar?

Yes. The Yoga Express (19031) runs daily from Sabarmati Junction at 11:25 and reaches Haridwar at 11:20 the next day, continuing to Yog Nagari Rishikesh. Check NTES or IRCTC for current timings.

Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Dehradun?

Not consistently confirmed. A Wikipedia table lists Air India Express, the airline's page showed no October 2026 fares on 6 October, and one aggregator lists a daily IndiGo non-stop. Check airline sites before you plan.

How many days are needed for Kedarnath from Ahmedabad?

About 7 to 8 days by train and about 6 days if you fly in, as planning estimates with a buffer day. Operators' own Kedarnath plans from Haridwar are shorter because they exclude travel from Gujarat.

Does a Kedarnath package from Ahmedabad include flights or the helicopter?

Usually not. Listings we read start in Haridwar, Delhi or Dehradun, and operators exclude helicopter tickets. Round-trip IRCTC fares on 6 October 2026 were Rs 6,390 from Sirsi (Sersi), Rs 10,164 from Phata and Rs 12,762 from Guptkashi, before surcharge and fees.

Can I still visit Kedarnath in October-November 2026?

The temple is expected to close around Bhai Dooj on 11 November 2026, but the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee had not announced a date on 6 October. IRCTC listed helicopter bookings only for 1 to 15 October 2026 at that time, so confirm dates before booking.
