Kedarnath Package from Pune: Plans & Cost
Key takeaways
- Pune has a weekly direct train to Haridwar: 17363 leaves Pune Junction on Tuesday and arrives Wednesday night (about 37 hours).
- IndiGo flies Pune-Dehradun nonstop (about 2 h 20 min) on some dates only; other dates need a one-stop connection.
- Plan about 6 days with a nonstop flight, about 8 days with the direct train.
- TravelTriangle's package starts from Rs 18,900 per person and excludes Pune travel and the helicopter; IRCTC showed Rs 6,390-12,762 round trip plus charges on 2 Oct 2026.
- Closing is expected on Bhai Dooj, 11 November 2026 (not yet announced); the 3 November train is the last with a realistic margin if the schedule holds.
A Kedarnath package from Pune is usually a 5-day loop starting in Haridwar, Delhi or Rishikesh, so getting there is your job. Pune has a weekly direct train to Haridwar (17363, out Tuesday, in Wednesday night) and IndiGo nonstops to Dehradun (about 2 h 20 min) on some dates. Quotes start near Rs 18,900 per person, excluding travel and helicopter.
Two things make Pune different from other cities: it has its own direct rail link to Haridwar, which none of the ranking package pages mentions, and the 2026 season is in its last weeks, with closing expected on Bhai Dooj, 11 November 2026 (not yet officially announced). Below are the three Pune routes side by side, an 8-day plan built around the Tuesday train, a 6-day fly-in plan, every quoted package with what it leaves out, and the helicopter fares IRCTC HeliYatra displayed on 2 October 2026. For the helicopter booking itself, follow our Kedarnath helicopter booking guide. This site is an independent planner and does not sell tickets or tours.
How to reach Kedarnath from Pune: train, flight or via Delhi
Every route ends at Sonprayag, the last point by road. From there you go to Gaurikund and walk about 16-17 km uphill to Kedarnath Temple, or fly in from a helipad near Guptkashi, Phata or Sirsi. The Pune question is how to reach Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun in the first place.
The weekly direct train from Pune to Haridwar
Train 17363, the Hubballi-Yog Nagari Rishikesh Weekly Express, starts from Hubballi on Monday, calls at Pune Junction on Tuesday and reaches Haridwar on Wednesday night, roughly 37 hours from Pune, before ending at Yog Nagari Rishikesh. It became a regular train on 6 July 2026, replacing an earlier special. Because it runs once a week, any Pune to Kedarnath by train plan is built around that Tuesday departure. Check IRCTC for the current schedule; we have not given clock times because they can be revised.
Flying Pune to Dehradun (Jolly Grant)
From Pune Airport, IndiGo's Pune-Dehradun page (viewed 2 October 2026) showed a nonstop-length flight of 2 h 20 min on 1 and 2 October, while the options on 30 September, 3 October and 4 October took 8 h 45 min to 9 h 35 min with a stop. So Pune to Kedarnath by flight works best on a nonstop date; the nonstop does not fly every day. Look up your specific date; we do not quote airfares because they move daily.
You land at Jolly Grant Airport, about 20 km from Rishikesh, 35 km from Haridwar and 25 km from Dehradun. Sonprayag is roughly 240 km away by road, so the first night is normally spent in Rishikesh or Haridwar before heading into the mountains.
Daily train to Delhi, or route via Mumbai
If Tuesday does not suit you, Jhelum Express (11077) leaves Pune daily for Jammu Tawi and halts at New Delhi. From Delhi you still need the Haridwar leg, and Delhi is about 460 km from Sonprayag, a 12-14 hour drive. The other fallback is Mumbai, which has a daily train to Haridwar and its own Dehradun flights; our Kedarnath tour package from Mumbai guide covers that route, so it is not repeated here.
| Route | Service | Frequency | Approx. travel time | Arrives at | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct rail | 17363 Hubballi-Yog Nagari Rishikesh Weekly Express from Pune Junction | Weekly (Tuesday from Pune) | About 37 h to Haridwar | Haridwar (Wednesday night) | No change of train; fixed-day planners |
| Air, nonstop | IndiGo Pune-Dehradun | Some dates only | About 2 h 20 min | Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) | Short leave, older travellers |
| Air, one-stop | IndiGo connections | Other dates | About 8 h 45 min - 9 h 35 min | Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) | Fixed dates without a nonstop |
| Rail via Delhi | Jhelum Express 11077 | Daily | Check IRCTC | New Delhi, then Haridwar | Flexible days, any weekday start |
| Via Mumbai | Mumbai-Haridwar train or Mumbai-Dehradun flight | See Mumbai guide | See Mumbai guide | Haridwar or Jolly Grant Airport | When Pune options do not fit your dates |
How many days you need from Pune
Count the trip in three blocks: getting north, the hill loop, and getting home. The hill loop takes about four days with a spare day included, because Kedarnath Temple sits at about 3,583 m and the walk from Gaurikund is long. The getting-north block is what separates a 6-day trip from an 8-day one.
Fly-in plan (about 6 days)
This works on dates when the nonstop operates, or if you accept a one-stop travel day. The plan follows the road loop most packages use, with nights near Sonprayag at Sitapur or Guptkashi.
Direct-train plan (about 8 days)
This plan starts on the Tuesday train and gives you the Wednesday-night arrival in Haridwar. For the return, flying home from Jolly Grant keeps the total to about eight days; going back by rail via Delhi takes longer, so check IRCTC for a return train before you commit.
| Day | Fly-in plan | Direct-train plan | Night halt |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fly Pune - Dehradun; transfer to Rishikesh or Haridwar | Tuesday: board 17363 at Pune Junction | Rishikesh/Haridwar | on train |
| 2 | Drive up towards Sonprayag | Wednesday: on train; reach Haridwar at night | Sitapur/Guptkashi | Haridwar |
| 3 | Kedarnath day: Gaurikund trek or helicopter | Thursday: drive up towards Sonprayag | Sitapur/Guptkashi | Sitapur/Guptkashi |
| 4 | Spare day (weather, rest) | Friday: Kedarnath day, trek or helicopter | Sitapur/Guptkashi | Sitapur/Guptkashi |
| 5 | Drive down to Rishikesh or Haridwar | Saturday: spare day | Rishikesh/Haridwar | Sitapur/Guptkashi |
| 6 | Fly Dehradun - Pune | Sunday: drive down to Rishikesh | Home | Rishikesh |
| 7 | - | Monday: fly Jolly Grant - Pune (or start rail home via Delhi) | - | home or on train |
| 8 | - | Margin for a one-stop flight or the rail return | - | home |
Treat the day counts as a planning frame, not a timetable. Ponies and porters are available for the walk if you need help, but agree the rate locally.
What a Kedarnath package from Pune includes and excludes
Search for a Kedarnath tour package from Pune and you get itineraries that begin in Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh or even Mumbai. "From Pune" is a sales label. Here is what each listing actually said on 2 October 2026; the figures are the operators' own, not prices offered by this site.

Adding the helicopter: IRCTC fares and booking rules
None of the Pune listings above includes the helicopter (TravelTriangle states it is not included; the others do not list it), so the add-on is booked separately on IRCTC HeliYatra, the only site that sells Kedarnath helicopter tickets online. On 2 October 2026 its fare table showed these round-trip prices per passenger:
| Helipad | Round-trip fare shown | Extras | Booking note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sirsi (Sersi) | Rs 6,390 | Fuel surcharge for journeys from 1 Oct 2026; convenience fee and PG charges | Operators: Arrow Aircraft, Himalayan Heli |
| Phata | Rs 10,164 | Same extras | Operators: United Helicharters, Thumby Aviation, Rajas Aerosports and Adventures, Pilgrimage Aviation |
| Guptkashi | Rs 12,762 | Same extras | Operators: Trans Bharat Aviation, Chipsan Aviation |
Three rules shape a Kedarnath package from Pune with helicopter. First, UCADA policy allows dynamic pricing, so the final charge can move from the figure above; go by what the payment page shows. Second, you must finish yatra registration before booking, since tickets are issued against a Group ID or Unique Registration Number. Third, one IRCTC user ID can hold at most 2 tickets of up to 6 passengers each, 12 people in total.
Seats are released in short windows. The window for journeys from 1 to 15 October 2026 opened on 22 September, so if you are taking the Tuesday train, check when the window covering your temple day opens and book as soon as it does.
Going in October-November 2026, or waiting for 2027
The temple usually closes for the winter on Bhai Dooj, which this year is Wednesday 11 November 2026. The Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) fixes the exact date and announces it on Vijayadashami; for 2025, the announcement came on 2 October and the doors closed on 23 October. On 2 October 2026 the BKTC website still said only that the 2026 yatra is in progress, so treat 11 November as expected until it is confirmed. The Kedarnath closing date 2026 page tracks the announcement.
With a once-a-week train, count backwards. If the schedule holds, the Tuesday 3 November departure reaches Haridwar on Wednesday 4 November, about a week before the expected closing; that is the last train leaving a realistic margin. The Tuesday 27 October train gives you more breathing room. Flying in is more forgiving because the nonstop runs on some dates. Expect cold weather at 3,583 m in late October and November.
If this autumn does not work, look at 2027. Over winter the deity is worshipped at Ukhimath, and the temple reopens in April around Akshaya Tritiya. The 2027 date has not been announced yet.
Registration and documents
Every pilgrim needs Char Dham yatra registration; it costs nothing. Options: the registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in website, the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app on Android or iOS, or offline counters at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar and near the shrines, Sonprayag included. Registration produces a Yatra Registration Letter carrying a QR code, which is checked on the way. Save a copy on your phone and print one. Help is on 1364 (toll free) or 0135-3520100.
Do this in Pune, before the train or flight. You need the registration to book the helicopter, and relying on counters on arrival day adds risk.
Package or self-planned trip from Pune: which is better
- You can travel on a Tuesday and like trains: take 17363 to Haridwar and book a road package from there, or self-plan the hill loop.
- Your leave is under a week: fly on a nonstop date and choose a package that starts in Haridwar or Rishikesh.
- Large family or group: a package handles cars and rooms; split the helicopter booking across user IDs if you are more than 12.
- Your dates fit neither: go via Delhi on Jhelum Express or via Mumbai.
In every case the package price is only the road loop. Add your Pune travel and the helicopter, and confirm the closing date before you pay. For IRCTC booking help, use our helicopter booking guide; for planning questions, call or WhatsApp +91 99263 12626. We do not sell tickets or packages.
