Haridwar to Kedarnath Helicopter: Price & Options

There is no scheduled helicopter from Haridwar to Kedarnath, so there is no fixed Haridwar to Kedarnath helicopter ticket price. You either drive about 210–240 km to Guptkashi, Phata or Sersi and take the official shuttle, costing roughly ₹6,000–13,000 round trip in 2026, or hire a private charter from Dehradun, which costs many times more.

Haridwar is where most Char Dham pilgrims begin, so it is natural to search for a direct flight from there. The reality is that Kedarnath helicopter services are organised around two models. The shuttle service, regulated by the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) and sold only through IRCTC HeliYatra, runs short hops from three helipads in the Mandakini valley. Charter flights, run by private operators, can start from the Dehradun area and land at Kedarnath, but they are priced per aircraft or per seat package, not as regulated tickets. Haridwar to Kedarnath helicopter ticket price: the options compared

The table sets out the realistic ways to combine Haridwar with a helicopter. Shuttle fares are UCADA-set; charter figures are indicative quotes that private operators and agents publish, and they change with season, aircraft and group size. Treat them as orders of magnitude, not prices.

Shuttle fares are round-trip, per person, and exclude the IRCTC convenience fee and GST. Charter prices vary so widely that the only reliable figure is a written quote from a DGCA-licensed operator for your exact date and group.

Option 1: Road from Haridwar plus the official shuttle

This is what the vast majority of helicopter pilgrims do, because it is by far the cheapest and the tickets are regulated. The route follows the Ganga and then the Alaknanda and Mandakini valleys.

In total, Haridwar to Guptkashi is roughly 210 km and 8 to 9 hours of driving; Sonprayag is about 240 km. Mountain roads, landslide repairs and yatra traffic make timings unpredictable, so plan to arrive the evening before your flight and stay near the helipad. Guptkashi has the widest choice of hotels; Phata and Sitapur have smaller options closer to Sersi and Phata.

Booking the shuttle

1. Complete Char Dham Yatra registration on the Uttarakhand government portal.
2. Log in to IRCTC HeliYatra when tickets for your dates are released.
3. Pick Sersi, Phata or Guptkashi and a UCADA-approved operator.
4. Enter passenger names and details exactly as on the photo ID you will carry.
5. Pay, download the ticket, and report at the helipad well before the slot.

Tickets for May and June sell out within minutes; September and October are easier. There are limits on tickets per login, passenger weight and baggage, and weather cancellations are common, so keep a spare day.

Option 2: Dehradun charters and seat-share packages

If you want to skip the long drive, the nearest aviation base to Haridwar for Kedarnath charters is Dehradun, where operators use the Sahastradhara helidrome area and, for some services, Jolly Grant Airport. Haridwar to Dehradun is roughly 50–55 km by road. Private operators sell two kinds of product:

• Seat-share packages: a seat on a shared flight to the Kedarnath area, sometimes including the connecting shuttle, darshan assistance and return. Published quotes on travel sites start from about ₹24,000 one way and ₹48,000 return per person, but inclusions differ widely.
• Full charters: the whole helicopter for your group, usually as a same-day Kedarnath return, or a Do Dham (Kedarnath and Badrinath) circuit. Quotes commonly run from about ₹80,000 to over ₹1,00,000 per person for Kedarnath alone, more for Do Dham.

Before paying for any charter, ask for the operator's DGCA permit, the aircraft type, the exact landing points, what happens if weather cancels the flight, and whether the landing slot at Kedarnath has been approved for that day. Charters are subject to the same weather and air-traffic restrictions as shuttles, and the Kedarnath valley is a controlled, busy airspace in peak season.

Fake charter warning

The Uttarakhand Police regularly warn about fraudulent helicopter websites. Be especially careful with "Haridwar to Kedarnath helicopter" offers on social media or WhatsApp, and never pay into personal bank accounts or UPI IDs. For shuttle tickets, IRCTC HeliYatra is the only official channel.

Getting from Haridwar to the helipad: taxi, bus or shared jeep

The road leg is where most of the planning effort goes, and it affects the total price as much as the flight. There are three common ways to cover it.

Private taxi

Taxis from Haridwar and Rishikesh are usually hired for the whole trip rather than one way, because the driver has to wait for you and bring you back. Operators generally price by vehicle type (hatchback, sedan, SUV, tempo traveller) and number of days, with hill-driving allowances and parking extra. Ask for an all-inclusive written quote that states tolls, driver's night charges, state permits and which helipad or stop the price covers. For a family of four to six, a hired SUV usually works out cheaper per head than buses once hotel transfers are included.

Bus and shared jeep

Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and private buses run from Haridwar and Rishikesh towards Rudraprayag, Guptkashi and Sonprayag during the season, mostly departing early in the morning. Shared jeeps also connect Rudraprayag and Guptkashi with the helipad villages. This is the cheapest way to reach the shuttle, but timings are loose and seats fill quickly, so it suits solo travellers or couples with light luggage and a flexible schedule.

Self-drive

Driving your own car is possible, but the Rishikesh–Rudraprayag–Guptkashi road involves long mountain stretches with landslide zones and heavy yatra traffic. Only confident hill drivers should attempt it, and you still need to park near the helipad; private vehicles cannot go beyond Sonprayag towards Gaurikund.

Whichever you choose, carry the helicopter baggage limit in mind: shuttle passengers are usually allowed only a small bag, so leave large suitcases at your hotel near the helipad or in the taxi.

A sample three-day plan from Haridwar

A realistic helicopter itinerary from Haridwar using the shuttle looks like this.

• Day 1: Leave Haridwar by 5–6 AM, stop at Devprayag and Rudraprayag, reach Guptkashi or Phata by evening. Collect or check your HeliYatra ticket.
• Day 2: Morning flight to Kedarnath, darshan at Kedarnath Temple and a visit to the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi and Bhairavnath Temple if time allows, return flight, overnight near the helipad.
• Day 3: Drive back to Haridwar, or continue to Badrinath via Chopta and Chamoli if you are doing the Do Dham circuit.

Keep a fourth day as a buffer: cloud over the valley can ground flights for hours, and landslides can delay the road.

Season and timing in late 2026

As of late September 2026, the season is in its last weeks. Kedarnath Temple usually closes around Bhai Dooj in late October or November, and helicopter services end with the closing. October is generally a good month for flights, with post-monsoon clear skies and fewer pilgrims, though mornings are cold at around 3,583 m.
